In 2012, the 10th anniversary of the euro is celebrated, the official currency adopted by 17 countries of the European Union.
To celebrate this event, the States that are part of the Eurozone are now issuing a commemorative 2-euro coin with an identical national side, the design of which resulted from the public vote of a competition open to all citizens of the countries whose currency is the euro.
The winning project, chosen from among more than 800 designs, is the creation of Helmut Andexlinger and symbolizes the way in which the euro has become a true global protagonist in the last 10 years, highlighting its importance in the lives of ordinary citizens (represented by the people depicted in the drawing), in commerce (the boat), in industry (the factory) and in energy (the wind turbines).
